Three new family physicians and two specialists will begin practising on Prince Edward Island this summer.

Dr. Laura Heron and Dr. Jaclyn O'Brien will open family practices in Charlottetown, and Dr. Michele Barton will take over the practice of Dr. Don Vickerson, who's retiring from his family physician practice at the Summerside Medical Centre.

Heron and O'Brien are both Islanders and graduates of the Dalhousie Family Medicine Residency Training Program on P.E.I.

2 specialists

Obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Katie Matheson, also an Islander, will begin practising in Charlottetown after completing her medical education and residency training at Dalhousie University in June.

The addition of Matheson will bring the obstetrics and gynecology group up to its full complement of six physicians in the Charlottetown area.

The Charlottetown area is also getting a new radiologist. Dr. Thomas Enright is relocating from Peterborough, Ont., to take on a full-time radiologist position at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Two of the doctors Matheson and O'Brien are opening new practices, while the other three are filling vacancies.
