Food Network Canada chefs are descending on Prince Edward Island this month for the Fall Flavours Festival.

The month-long, Island-wide festival kicked off on Saturday. The festival includes more than 60 culinary events highlighting Maritime tastes and traditions.

The Food Network chefs will work with local chefs to prepare meals. During one such event Chopped Canada winner Hayden Johnston will prepare a five-course menu highlighting P.E.I. beef.

The inaugural event is the Feast of the Fathers at the Culinary Institute of Canada, funded as part of the P.E.I. 2014 celebrations.

We've also got a lamb luau at Crowbush links which is going to be chef Chuck Hughes, the celebrity chef for that one. When he was here last year he really raved and raved about how good our lamb was and he was asking us why aren't you guys doing a lamb event? So here we are with a lamb event, said Austin Clement, vice-chair of the Prince Edward Island Culinary Alliance. which runs the event.

On Sunday there is a lobster party on the beach at Cedar Dunes.

The festival ends Sept. 28.

Beer Festis back

Its not the only festival happening this weekend. The Prince Edward Island Beer Festival is back.

Organizers have expanded the number of breweries and beers this year.

Twenty-one breweries from across North America will be there, featuring 75 beers.

There will be beer tasting, entertainmentand food pairings from local restaurants.

Lots of breweries sponsor different events so they get to see what we're doing on P.E.I., what type of events we're doing on P.E.I. Hopefully they can get involved with sponsorship, said organizer Mike Carver with the P.E.I. Brewing Company.

Also, people from off Island are coming to this. There's hotel [rooms] being purchased. So there's a revenue source there happening because of the festival.
