P.E.I. working with daycares for fall

The province has started what will be regular meetings with childcare centres wanting to be part of a new provincially-regulated childcare system.

The province has startedwhat will be regular meetings with childcare centres wanting to be part of a new provincially-regulated childcare system.

Fifty centers have been approved by the province to become early years centers, and 36 of them will be ready to go this fall. Early Childhood Development Minister Doug Currie said there will be regular dialogue in the coming weeks.

"There will be constant updates, particularly early on, because it's a new initiative," said Currie.

"We'll be monitoring the regulations and the standards that we put in place to make sure we have the highest quality of child learning we possibly can."

Due to changes in the way daycares are funded, eight childcare centres have decided to close for good.
