The decision to eliminate parking fees at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital has raised questions about what will happen tostaff working at the toll booth, and Health P.E.I. said it's unclear how the move will affect them.

The province announced Wednesday it will eliminate parking fees for staff and visitors effective July 1.

Until then, it will continue to be free for the first half hour and $1.50 for each hour to a maximum of $7 a day.

Paladin Security has the contract to provide security at the hospital and Health P.E.I. said they still have to talk about what security might still be needed in the parking lot area.

It is possible security officers could still be needed in the toll booth, or they could be re-deployed to another area of the hospital, officials said.

A review of the decision will take place to determine the hospital'sexact security needs, said Health PEI,and it will be up to the security company to determine how to implement that.

The QEH is the only hospital on the Island that charges for parking.
