P.E.I. National Park getting $23M in upgrades

The federal government announced $23 million in upgrades for P.E.I. National Park Thursday.

The federal government announced $23 million in upgrades for P.E.I. National Park Thursday.

The improvement include sevendifferent projects

  • Beaches rehabilitation: $4.3 million.
  • Rehabilitation of park entrances: $5.3 million.
  • Trails rehabilitation: $2 million.
  • Water and wastewater system improvements: $1.6 million.
  • Green Gables rehabilitation: $9.5 million.
  • Operational and directional signage: $427,000.
  • Ardgowan landscape conservation maintenance: $304,000.

The work at Green Gables will include renovations of the visitor centre, the gift shop and the food service area, as well as site layout improvements.

This new announcement comes after extensive work on the park that started this spring and is still ongoing.Those projects, $24 million worth, including road projects and improvements to CoveheadBridge.

In a news release, Parks Canada said the investment in P.E.I. National Park is part of $3 billion in planned spending over the next five years at Canada's national parks, historic sites and marine conservation areas.
