Beach volleyball players got a taste of Island hospitality this weekend during the SandJam beach volleyball tournament in Summerside.

Four Canadian men's and four Canadian women's teams were competing for $10,000 in prize money.

It's the first time the event was held on P.E.I in past years it was in Halifax.

Some competitors had never been to the Island before, said Andrew Ling, event manager for Sports & Entertainment Atlantic.

"The athletes are having a great time, just taking it all in," he said. "The hospitality of Summerside and P.E.I. has been awesome."

Ling said some of the athletes have gone sightseeing in Cavendish and Charlottetown, and have enjoyed the Summerside Lobster Festival.

"The lobster suppers, they're all over that," he said.
