Best P.E.I. beaches: Your favourite spots

We asked you which P.E.I. beach is your favourite. Here are some of your picks.

Some people guard their choice locales, while others are happy to share

Basin Head Beach was named one of the top 20 beaches in Canada by Chatelaine magazine. (CBC )

Prince Edward Island has 800 kilometers of beach, but Basin Head beach has been singled out and named one of the top 20 beaches in the country by Chatelaine.

We know it's not the only great beach on the Island so we posted the story to our Facebook page and asked you to share your favourites.

Thunder Cove

"I am from Summerside and my favourite go-to beach is Thunder Cove in Darnley," wrote Paula Ramsay. "Beautiful long, sandy beach with dunes."

Thunder Cove is along the northern coast, and is home to the iconic Tea Cup Rock.

Tracadie

"Pogey Beach," was John Perry's vote.

Tracadie Beach, along Tracadie Harbour, is commonly referred to as Pogey Beach by locals.

It's not exactly clear how the name came about, but one theory says it's because the beach borders P.E.I. National Park and is just as scenic but doesn't require a park pass.

Its moniker was immortalized by web series Just Passing Through, which shot a fictional TV show called Pogey Beach at Tracadie. A Pogey Beach movie is in the works.

Panmure Island

Panmure Island is a provincial park with a supervised white-sand beach in eastern P.E.I.

It was Chris Pearce's vote for favourite beach on the Island, and Melissa Rust agreed.

"I spent a lot of summers there," she wrote.

Skinners Pond

Skinners Pond, just northwest of Tignish, P.E.I., is a favourite of Linda Doucette's. She calls the beach "beautiful."

Bothwell

Near the upper eastern tip of P.E.I., Bothwell Beach is another white sand beach with spectacular dunes.

It's Bob Gray's favourite of all the beaches on the Island.

Mossey's Beach

Mossey's Beach, which is adjacent to Basin Head Beach, is another favourite.

"Way less people and miles and miles of beach," wrote Desiree Cable.

"It's my favourite too!" wrote Kelly Creamer MacLean.

'Not telling'

Many said they'd never share their favourite spots on the internet preferring instead to keep them a secret.

"My favourite beaches are the ones that we don't tell the tourists about," wrote Sean Driscoll.

"I would never tell on the internet, then there would be too many people there!" wrote Kelly-Sue O'Connor, who conceded she does tell people face-to-face.

Not everyone was so protective. Ronnie Nicholson shared a screen capture of Google Maps, with a pin dropped along the shore just west of Belle River.

"Shhhh," he wrote.
