Top Islander in Blue Nose marathon finishes 31st

The top-finishing Islander in the 2016 Bluenose Marathon held in Halifax over the weekend was Carl Bradley of Morell, P.E.I., who finished 31st overall.

The top-finishing Islander in the 2016 Blue Nose Marathon held in Halifax over the weekend was Carl Bradley of Morell, P.E.I., who finished 31st overall.

Bradley finished 26th out of 140 men, and fourthin his category of men between the ages of 20 and 29. He ran the 42.195 kilometresin a time of 3 hours, 33 minutes and 27.8 seconds. That's about 45 minutes after the winner, BryanHipson of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, who ran the marathon in just 2 hours and 46 minutes.

The top Island woman was Ashley Tierney ofCornwall, who came in 130th overall, in a time of four hours and 29 minutes, finishing 39th in a field of 80 women.

Veteran marathoner Francis Fagan of Charlottetown was the second-fastest Islander coming in 43rdplace, and Matthew Hanus of Cornwall after him, placing 69th.

220 men and women ran the full marathon.

Last year,Islander Kris Taylor edged out Hipson to takesecond place in the Blue Nose.
