Central P.E.I community breaks heat record for July 5

Temperatureson Friday officially brokethe record for the hottest July 5 in a central P.E.I. community.

Maple Plains, P.E.I., recorded a temperatureof30.8 C breaking the previous record of 30 C set back in 1983.

Charlottetown was 0.1C from setting a new record for July 5. Charlottetowntemperatures were recorded at 30.8 C, the previous record that was also set in 1983 was 30.9 C.

However,the hottest place on P.E.I. on Friday was Summerside where heat levelsreached31.6 C.

The weather was co-operatingat the Cavendish Beach Music FestivalgroundsFriday afternoon.

Officials with Island EMS, a paramedic service at the festival said they were worried about concertgoers suffering sunstroke and dehydration.

Festival officials said they planned on spraying the crowd with water to fight dehydration.

While not as hot or humid as Friday,Scotland saidthat Saturday will still be a bit muggy thanks to warm southwest winds.
