The P.E.I. government is reminding boaters to be extra cautious under and around the Cascumpec Bridge while construction is underway.

Boaters are also advised to travel at speeds that don't create a risk or inconvenience to other boaters or workers in the area.

This summer, the province began a project that will see the Cascumpec Bridge on Route 12 in West Prince, near Alberton, reconstructed and raised by 0.6 metres.

The province says safety hazards exist below the bridge and in the water around the bridge.

The navigational channel below the bridge will be located in different places and limited in width at times during the construction period.

Given this, markers will be put in place to show boaters the proper channel for travel.

The project is funded jointly by the province and the federal government with $2.4 million set aside.
