A Charlottetown store owner got quite a surprise Thursday morning when a car crashed through her front window.

Driver confusion

"We haven't ruled out a mechanical malfunction at this point in time, but we're looking more towards driver confusion," saidConst. Ron Kennedy of the Charlottetown Police Service.

After going through National Music's window, the vehicle struck a shelf or bookshelf that partiallyfell on theowner, Kennedy explained. He said the owner was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges laid, but still under investigation

The female driverof the vehicle, approximately 35-40 years old, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, said Kennedy.

"She came off Capital Drive, slowed down and was in the process of slowing her vehicle. And then, I guess, the accelerator was pressed in error or there was some sort of issue with the accelerator and the brake and the vehicle struck the front of the building," he said.

Charges were not laid against the driver, but Kennedy said the matter is still under investigation.
