The City of Charlottetown is trying to encourage people to ride their bikes more often.

The city is hosting an event Sunday afternoon called Cycle Our City.

It will include a group bike ride, information sessions, games, and a bike repair clinic.

The event is part of an ongoing effort to promote cycling, says Charlottetown's sustainability officer Ramona Doyle.

She hopes the event will help address safety concerns that were highlighted in a cycling needs survey done with UPEI.

"Definitely safety came up as one of those primary concerns that kind of kept people that maybe would be cyclists from going out on the roads. So we're hoping that this event will really highlight some of those great cycling routes that we already do have in the city that are safe," she said.

It's also an opportunity to give people an update on the rules of the road, she said.

About 130 people have signed up for the event.
