Brighton house being cleaned up after deemed unsightly

Clean-up has started at a house on York Lane, in Charlottetown's Brighton neighbourhood, that the city deemed unsightly.

Local businessman Terry Hennessey confirmed to CBC News he will be helping with the clean-up, but wouldn't specify who he was working for.

In July the house was deemed not compliant with the city's hazardous and unsightly premises bylaw. Neighbours had expressed concerns about rodents around the property, untrimmed bushes, and propane tanks outside the house.

At the time, Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy said if the property wasn't cleaned up, the city would step in and do the cleanup at the owner's cost.

Now, the city says as long as the work is completed, it will not send Public Works officials in to do the work at the homeowner's expense.

The state of the house has been a concern for years. The city previously stepped in and cleaned up the property about five years ago after receiving complaints.
