The Summerside Coats for Kids campaign needs more donations. Last year, about 200 coats were handed out, and organizers think the need could be even higher this year.

The Summerside Coats for Kids campaign needs more donations.

Last year, about 200 coats were handed out, and organizers think the need could be even higher this year.

Sandra Gallagher says only 150 coats have been donated so far and the hand-out day is just two weeks away.

'Very hard for families'

The campaign is in special need of boots and girls and boys snowsuits, size 8, and 10-12, and 14, she said.

I've had people contact me and they're saying, like, you know, they're torn between putting oil in their tank or buying their children snowsuits. Sandra Gallagher

"It's very hard for families, even with just one child, but people that have more than one child it's extremely hard to come up with the money to buy everybody a snowsuit and boots," she said.

The winter clothes will be handed out at the Summerside Boys and Girls Club on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations can be dropped off at Sun and Suds Laundry, the Boys and Girls Club or Township Chevrolet.

Money is tight

This is the fifth year for the Coats for Kids campaign, and Gallagher said she expects more people may need help this year.
