Musicians play for 12 hours in Evangeline community

The Evangeline community in Western P.E.I. raised more than $8,000 during a concert fundraiser this weekend for families affected by the Fort McMurray wildfires.

The 12-hour concert was held at the Village Musical Acadien in Abram-Village from 2 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday.

Musicians performed the whole time, and there were activities for kids, barbecues and even a car wash.

Gilles Arsenault, one of the organizers, said many from the Evangeline region work in Alberta and have been affected by the wildfires.

"It was just nice to see that people work together in situations like this and there is solidarity," he said.

All the money goes to the Red Cross's Alberta Relief Fund, and donations are still coming in, he said.
