The P.E.I. government says trafficon the Trans-Canada Highway maybe reduced to one lane at times next week as construction on the Cornwall Perimeter Highway project moves east of the Maypoint Road intersection.

According to a press release, paving will begin Monday around the new roundabout at the Maypoint Road and Trans-Canada Highway intersection. The work involves curbs being installed along both sides of the highway.

Although traffic will be reduced to one lane at times, it will also be maintained in both directions. The province is advising motorists to use alternate routes in and out of Charlottetown, especially during peak times such as morning and evening commuting hours. The province is also reminding drivers to be mindful of the safety of workers, pedestrians and their fellow motorists while construction is underway.

The province says phase 1 of the project is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be completed mid-to-late November.
