Resident upset Cornwall bypass not on council meeting agenda

There needs to be more public discussion at Cornwall council about a bypass for the Trans-Canada Highway around the town west of Charlottetown, says a local resident.

Larry Jones was at the monthly meeting of Cornwall council Wednesday evening, expecting to hear a discussion of the recently-announced preferred route. All that happened was that a letter from the Department of Transportation was read.

"I was surprised that council isn't discussing it and really doesn't have an agenda item that relates to the bypass," said Jones.

"It's the single biggest project on P.E.I. this year and one would expect it will have impacts in the town and those impacts should be discussed publicly, and that format should be in council."

Mayor Minerva McCourt said the town council always takes residents' concerns into consideration, andattending all the meetings and public meetings regarding the bypass.
