COWS raises nearly $25K for Fort McMurray fire relief

COWS Ice Cream has raised almost $25,000 for relief for fire victims in Fort McMurray, Alta. in just a single day.

'It was an inspiring day'

COWS Ice Cream has raised almost $25,000 for relief for fire victims in FortMcMurray, Alta. in just a single day.

The P.E.I.-based company, which has stores across the country, donated 100 per cent of proceeds from ice cream sales on Sunday to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fire Relief Appeal.

COWS collected $21,000 in ice cream sales and $3,355 in donations and staff tips, for a total of $24,627.

"We wanted to do something to help," company president and CEO Jackie McIntyre said in a written release Monday.

"We decided to take on this initiative Thursday and were thrilled with how quickly we were able to spread the word."

'An inspiring day'

She said staff worked tirelessly to serve long lineups of customers who visited stores on Mother's Day.

"Our staff were incredible," said McIntyre.

"We really want to thank all of our customers who waited in line to contribute to this cause. It was an inspiring day."

COWS operates stores in Banff, Alta., Whistler, B.C., and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., as well as several on the Island.
