Eastern P.E.I. residents to discuss amalgamation concerns

People in eastern P.E.I. are being asked for input on potential plans for the Three Rivers Region, which could include amalgamation.

Meetings are being held this week to hear any questions or concerns from people in the Georgetown, Montague and Cardigan districts.

Topics could include ensuring access to basic services, how to maintain the identity of a community and how to grow populations.

Two meetings

Georgetown Mayor Lewis Lavandier said it's important elected councils get feedback from residents before making big decisions.

"We don't want to have them feel that these decisions have already been made," he said. "We want them to realize and understand that we need their input and we want their help in making this decision."

The first meeting is being held Wednesday night at Montague Regional High School. The second one is Thursday at 7 p.m. at Cardigan Consolidated.
