Elections P.E.I. is reminding Islanders that if they are receiving phone calls about the plebiscite on electoral reform, the calls are not coming from them.

"Elections P.E.I. has not and will not be calling Island voters," director of communications Paul Alan said in an email statement Thursday.

Some Island voters have called Elections P.E.I. complaining about automated calls or "robocalls" to their homes. Some voters thought it was Elections P.E.I. calling, when it was, in fact, PEI Coalition for Proportional Representation.

The grassroots organization said it is making the calls because people have questions about the plebiscite.

"I heard from Elections P.E.I. that people said they were calling on behalf of Elections P.E.I. I can assure you that that would not be anyone from our team," said Mark Greenan, the campaign manager for the group.

He said every volunteer is trained to clearly identify who they are calling on behalf of.

It is unclear if calls are coming from any other groups. But Alan said eligible voters are welcome to call the Elections P.E.I. Helpline at 1-888-234-8683 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. if they need assistance regarding the plebiscite vote.

Islanders aged 16 and up can vote online or by telephone until Nov. 7, or in person on Nov. 4 and 5.
