Western P.E.I. fire may be arson

Arson is suspected in a fire that destroyed a vacant house in western P.E.I., RCMP say.

House in Alaska 'totally destroyed' when firefighters arrived

Arson is suspected in a fire that destroyed a vacant house in western P.E.I., RCMP say.

Blair Perry, chief of the O'Leary Fire Department, said a neighbour of the house, in Alaska, P.E.I., noticed the flames shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday and called for help.

"When we arrived on scene it was an abandoned structure that was basically on the ground when we got there," Perry said. "It had been burning for a while so, it was totally destroyed when we got there."

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the provincial fire marshal's office and the RCMP, who believe it may have been set deliberately.
