RCMP are crediting a couple of Good Samaritans with helping rescue two fishermen from an overturned boat in eastern P.E.I. over the weekend.

Police say the Good Samaritans, who were fishing in the area of Big Pond in Rock Barra, heard cries for help at around 7 p.m. AT Sunday.

They made made their way down the water and found two men, one about 80 years old and the other around 40, who had been fishing when their small rowboatoverturned.

RCMP say the fishermen had life jackets but weren't wearing them, and they were not strong swimmers.

'A little chilly'

"When we got there, the two gentlemen were on the bank. They were rescued by other anglers," said Chief Colin LaVie with the SourisVolunteerFire Department.

"They had been in the water for quite some time, so they were a little chilly."

LaVie said the men had been in the water about half an hour.

One of the men was taken to hospital for assessment, while the other was released at the scene.

RCMP are reminding members of the public to wear a life jacket at all times while out on the water, and attach a whistle to life jackets to make it easier to call for help.
