P.E.I. gas price up over $1

Gas prices went up overnight on P.E.I., pushing the price at the pump above the $1 mark.

Gas and diesel up, propane down, heating oil steady

Gas prices went up overnight on P.E.I., pushing the price at the pumpabove the $1 mark.

Prices were up one cent per litre in the regular, first-of-the-month price review from the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission.

Diesel prices are also up a penny. Heating oil prices are steady.

It is the second increase in a little more than a week. Last Tuesday there was an unscheduled increase due to flooding in Louisiana affecting refinery production.

Production continues to be slow, said IRAC, and that, in combination with high demand in the U.S., is pushing up wholesale prices.

Current prices are

  • Regular self-serve gasoline: $1.01 to $1.021 per litre.
  • Diesel: $1.007 to $1.018 per litre.
  • Heating oil: $0.702 per litre.

IRAC said P.E.I. gasoline prices are still the lowest in the region ($1.033 in Halifax) and below the national average ($1.059).

The price of propane fell from some retailers, down by two cents per litre from Irving and 1.8 cents per litre from Kenmac. There is no change from Superior Propane.
