The occupants of a house in eastern P.E.I. were sent to hospital Monday after exhaust from their backup generator made it back into their house.

The Murray Harbour home had no electricity following a winter storm that hit Sunday.

The Murray Harbour Fire Department and Island EMS were on scene. Some of the occupants of the home were transported to hospital for treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Emergency officials reminded Islanders to make sure the exhaust from generators is not entering the building, and to use a carbon monoxide detector.
