Girl and cat share special bond as amputees

A five-year-old girl from P.E.I. recently found her perfect match at the Humane Society.

Mara Duncan of Stratford received her cat, Simon, as an early birthday gift in August.

The two have something special in common: they are both amputees.

Mara had part of her right foot amputated due to a congenital malformation, and Simon had a right leg removed after a car accident.

"She was all very excited to meet him," said Noelle Duncan, Mara's mother.

"We asked if she noticed anything special about Simon and she noticed right away that he was missing a leg. And she loved him right from the beginning anyway, whether he had three legs or four legs."

Duncan said Simon is still quite shy, because he was a stray cat and was hit by a car, but she said Mara and the family have helped him come out of his shell.
