Future of 18th-century Glenaladale Estate subject of talks

The Glenaladale Heritage Trust which is a seeking to preserve a 214-hectare, 18th century estate on P.E.I.'s North Shore and the National Trust for Canada are meeting this week to discuss the estate's future.

The Glenaladale Estate was settled in 1772 by Capt. John MacDonald, 7th Laird of Glenfinnan. The estate on the Tracadie Bay shorestayed in the MacDonald family until 1905, when it was purchased by the MacKinnon family, who have been the owners since.

There have been four houses on the property. The current brick mansion was built in 1883.

The Glenaladale Heritage Trust is raising money to purchase the property, which in 2012 was valued at $2.6 million.

The trust's website says it plans to restore the home to its original period, and operate it as a small conference/education centre.
