Ten golf carts stolen from Veseys Seeds in York, P.E.I., Friday night were returned by the joyriders the worse for wear.

Police received a call from the garden centre and seed store Saturday morning.

"It will be thousands of dollars," to repair the carts, said Veseysequipment director Scott Nicholson, who said he was "disappointed" to see the damage Saturday morning.

The cost of repairing the damage is still being assessed.

"They're mostly just dirtied up," Nicholson said, adding it took one employee a full day to clean just four of the carts inside and out.

It appears that the carts were driven to a local area known as "the pit" and later returned to Vesey's Seeds property, RCMP said in a written release Monday.

Not the first time

Whoever took the carts returned each one to the exact same spot on Veseys rear lot, Nicholson said.

When the same thing happened a couple oftimes last summer, he said it was sometimes several days before anyone noticed but this time the carts were so muddy they stood out.

"If anybody on the public saw someone driving a golf cart in the night anywhere in that area, the York area, that certainly would be very helpful for us that they witnessed what was happening," said Sgt. Leanne Butler with the Queens District RCMP.

"Sometimes people know information of who did it."

Four of the carts were new andsix otherswere older but nearlynewtrade-ins, Nicholsonsaid.

Veseyshas now taken measures to store the golf carts inside overnight or disable them so they are trickier to start, he added.
