Two men have been arrested after assault rifles were used to keep snowmobilers off a North Winsloe, P.E.I., property on Monday, according to Queens District RCMP.

The snowmobilers allege a barricade had been erected on a property they frequently use, and when the machines stopped, a man dressed in camouflage came out from hiding with an assault rifle.

The snowmobilers contacted RCMP.

"Officers apprehended the armed man and defused the situation," RCMP Cpl. Scott Gosse said in the release.

During the investigation, police determined a second incident occurred on Feb. 13 involving the same man and a friend.

"One of the men fired their firearm in the air when snowmobiles approached the barricade," said Gosse.

The two men were arrested for careless use of a firearm.

A 25-year-old from North Winsloe and a 29-year-old from Charlottetown are scheduled to appear in court on March 29.
