Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for all three counties on P.E.I.

Humidex values expected to reach 39 C

Inland areas can expect temperatures of about 30 C and a humidex value of 39.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for all three counties on P.E.I.

The agency says the highest inland temperatures are expected to be about 30 C with a humidex value of 39.

Coastal areas can expect lower temperatures.

Environment Canada says humidity is expected to drop slightly Wednesday, but above-normal temperatures and humidityare forecasted into Friday.

Linda Libby, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the criteria for a heat warning for P.E.I. is two or more consecutive days with temperatures of 27 C or higher, and an overnight temperature of 18 C or higher.

"We may briefly break the criteria, but we'll be under the influence as well of the water that surrounds us and if we have lighter wind conditions in the afternoonwe may, particularly for those areas along the shore, get that onshore wind that develops that will help it feel a little bit cooler than it actually is," she said.

A cold front late Friday may cause thunderstorms on the Island, Libby added.

The P.E.I. Public Library tweeted that people are welcome to use their air-conditioned buildings to get away from the heat.
