Car ran stop sign in fatal collision, say RCMP

The 45-year-old driver who was killed in a highway accident in eastern P.E.I. Sunday night ran through a stop sign, say RCMP.

The accident happened at 10:15 p.m. Sunday in Dundas

RCMPSgt. Chris Gunn said the Stratford-area man was driving a Toyota Solara east on the Cumberland Road towards the intersection of Route 4 and did not stop. A car driven by a 17-year-old girl struck the Toyota on the driver's side. Her car was heading south. There is no stop sign on Route 4.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 53-year-old Stratford area man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The girl, who isfrom Kings County, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and released Monday morning.

Investigation could take some time

Investigations by both the RCMP and the coroner's office are underway. A traffic analyst wasstill at the scene Monday afternoon.

"We believe both cars were exceeding the posted speed limit," said Gunn, adding he couldn't comment on any potential charges.

"Until we get our analyst's report to confirm speeds and other items that may have affected the collision we won't be commenting on that."
