Government funding Holland College Georgetown campus upgrades

Students on Holland College's campus in eastern P.E.I. will see significantupgrades to the building thanks to some federal and provincial Infrastructure funds.

Renovations are set to begin in the coming weeks. The list of improvements includes upgrades to the ventilation and electrical systems, roof repairs, parking lot re-paving, and an additional186 square metresof classroom space added to the Georgetown campus.

Campus receiving $741,768

"I think this will go a long way in ensuring that we have a safe and modern and efficient learning environment for our students and staff," said Michael O'Grady, vice-president of innovation, enterprise and strategic development at Holland College.

Funding has been provided through the Strategic Infrastructure Fund agreement. The Georgetown campus is receiving $741,768, equally split between the federal and provincial governments, to enhance and expand training facilities for the trades.

"These upgrades are definitely necessary," said O'Grady. "This gives us the opportunity to do a major upgrade all at once."

'Cutting edge'

"It's going to make sure that the electrical and the mechanical area expertise in this institution remains on the cutting edge," said Lawrence MacAulay, MP for Cardigan.

Holland College officials say thechanges will improve student programs and environmental sustainability. Work is expected to be mostly completed by this fall.

The Georgetown campus offers welding and plumbing programs.
