Holland College students will pay two per cent more for tuition this fall.

The P.E.I. college announced Friday morning the tuition increase will come into effect in September.

"Unfortunately, there are times when a tuition increase is required," said Holland College vice president Michael O'Grady in a news release.

"The college strives to maintain the lowest tuition levels possible by minimizing expenses and maximizing revenues."

The college received a one per cent increase in funding from the province in the spring budget.

Tuition at UPEI is also up for this fall, by three per cent. The university also received a one per cent increase in provincial funding this year.

Corrections

  • This story previously quoted provincial funding increases from the 2015-16 budget as being from this spring. The correct numbers from the 2016-17 budget, which are lower this year, are now included.
