Coffee enhancer, fish health, life vest earn start-up funding

Innovation PEI has announced the 10 recipients of Ignition Fund grants for 2016.

The recipients include companies exploring new uses for potatoes, virtual music production services, ways to enhance coffee and a number of food and beverage products.

The companies are

• Island Potato Soap Company, Pieter Ijsselstein: Manufacturing a hand bar soap using potato juice from local culled potatoes.
• Song Cat Music, Chris Erhardt and Mylene Besancon: Music production services in the cloud, with the aim of becoming a truly virtual recording studio.
• BH Enterprises, Rodney Herbert: A new business to commercialize an innovative design of automatic life vest inflator.
• Rise & Brine Pickle Co., Cortney Wagner: Using Prince Edward Island produce and unique ingredients to create a line of artisanal pickles, preserves and condiments.
• Ferme Isle St. Jean Farm & Cheese House, Deirdre and Gabriel Mercier: Making fine cheese and yogurt from sheep's milk.
• RPS Biologiques, Subrata Chowdhury: Commercialization of advanced research projects focused on fish health in aquaculture production.
• Deep Roots Distillery, Mike Beamish: Developing a new whisky product intended to appeal to a wide base of consumers.
• Rawsome Juice Bar, Suzanne Keough: Expanding on current products.
• Sentrik Supplements, Michael Good and Daniel Good: Development and sales of neurocognitive enhancers, specifically to respond to a gap in the market for coffee enhancers.
• Compass Aquaculture, Gary Compton and Jeremy Noonan: Developing a technological farm management system.
