Driver charged with impaired driving, resisting arrest, and assaulting officer

A report of a vehicle off the road in Cornwall, P.E.I. has led to several charges against a 32-year-old man.

Driver has previous convictions, say RCMP

Police received a call about a vehicle off the road on Heatherway Drive at 6:50p.m. Monday. It was snowing, and road conditions were bad at the time.

RCMP said when they arrived the driver appeared to be intoxicated. At the Queens District RCMP Office in Charlottetown he refused to provide samples of his breath, RCMP said.

Vehicle impounded

The man spent the night in jail and was released the following morning. He faces charges of impaired driving, refusing to provide breath samples, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Charlottetown later this month to answer to those charges.

RCMP said the man has previous driving convictions, so his vehicle has been impounded for six months at his expense.

Reports from the public continue to play a large role in the apprehension of impaired drivers, said RCMP, and they extended their thanks to the person who reported this incident.
