Island Storm players bring home national awards

The National Basketball League of Canada selected two Island Storm players for national awards, which were announced on the weekend.

The National Basketball League of Canada selected two Island Storm players for national awards, which were announced on the weekend.

Terry Thomas was named Canadian Player of the Year and Jahii Carson earned Newcomer of the Year.

Thomas averaged 18.9 points per game for the Storm, adding 6.8 rebounds. His 2.09 steals per game was second best in the league.

Carson averaged 20.7 points per game, peaking with a 39-point game against Halifax in early March. Carson is a strong performer from the free-throw line, shooting 81 per cent. That includes four perfect games from the line, include a 15 for 15.

Storm steal win in game 1

Carson and Thomas led the Storm to a win over the top-seeded Halifax Hurricanes in game one of the Atlantic final Sunday.

Thomas scored 20 and rebounded nine and Carson added 21 points and seven assists in the 119-115 win. It was the first Storm win in Halifax this season.

Game two is Tuesday in Halifax. The seven-game series moves to Charlottetown Thursday.
