Both jail escapees back in custody, RCMP say

Police have two men back in custody less than 24 hours after they escaped from the Provincial Correction Centre Sunday night.

Men escaped about 11 p.m. Sunday, back in custody by Monday evening

Police on P.E.I. havetwo men in custody Monday eveningafter they escaped from the Provincial Correctional Centre just outside Charlottetown Sunday night.

Murray James Todd, 31, and Brandon Jeffery Quinn, 22, escaped the jail at about 11 p.m., saidRCMP Sgt. Craig Eveleigh.

In a release, RCMP said they worked with Charlottetown police to find and arrest the two prisoners.

Both were arrested in Charlottetown. Todd was found at a local motel, andQuinn was arrested at a residence.

The menwere serving time for non-violent offences, the province said.

Eveleighsaid police don't believe the men were armed or posed any threat to the public.

Police dogs and drones were used Sunday night to try to locate the men,Eveleighsaid.

An investigation is underway at the provincial jail to determine how the escape was possible.

"As the investigation is underway, we cannot offer comment at this time," said an email from a provincial government spokesperson to CBC News.

Both men will now face additional charges related to their escapefrom jail.
