Alleged knife incident in Summerside bar ends in arrest

A 54-year-old Summerside man is facing charges after an incident that police say involved a knife at a bar in the P.E.I. city.

Man arrested and knife recovered in parking lot of bar, police say

A 54-year-old Summerside man is facing charges after an incident that police say involved a knife at a bar in the P.E.I. city.

The man faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, uttering threats and assaulting a police officer.

Police were called to the bar at about 10:30 p.m. In a news release, police said staff members had asked the man to leave due to his level of intoxication.Witnesses reported that the man became confrontational and removed a large knife from his pants, waved it aggressively, and threatened one of the staff members.

Police said they located the man in the parking lot of the establishment and recovered the knife during his arrest.

The man assaulted one of the arresting officers while being held in jail, police said. The officer did not require medical attention.

The man was released from custodySaturdaymorning and will be appearing in court at a later date to answer the charges.
