If you make dinner on your boat this Saturday on P.E.I., under certain conditions you will be allowed to have a glass of wine with it.

Several changes to P.E.I.'s liquor laws will come into effect this Saturday.

  • Allowing the consumption of alcohol on boats that are anchored or secured at a wharf. The boat must also have permanent sleeping, cooking, and washroom facilities.
  • Allowing individuals or businesses that hold a liquor agency licence, for operating a liquor store, to also hold another kind of licence, such as for a bar or brewery.
  • The P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission will be given more power to modify liquor licence application forms when necessary.

The province said the changes will bring the province more in line with regulations across the country. It did note that Nova Scotia and New Brunswick do not allow liquor agency licence holders to hold other licences, but that New Brunswick is considering this change.

All three changes will come into effect Saturday.
