Island lobster fishermen are expecting record prices when the fall season begins in less than two weeks.

"The catches should be good and I think the price should be extremely good. It should be record prices this fall," said Craig Avery, president of the P.E.I. Fishermen's Association.

The spring fishery ended on a high note with record prices and catches that were starting to rebound at the end of the season, he said.

Demand is still strong, and Avery sees no reason that won't continue for the fall season, which begins Aug. 9.

"There is still all kinds of demand out there," he said. "From what I'm hearing, there is very little inventory around and most of the stuff was sold as fast as it came in this spring."

The only downside, he said, is the increase in the carapace size, which will likely impact landings.
