A giant lobster roll built by the P.E.I. Fishermen's Association has been recognized by one world record tracking group, but a Guinness record remains elusive.

The 36.5-metre lobster roll was made in September at the P.E.I. International Shellfish Festival.

On Monday the World Record Academy, which was established in 2007 as a competitor to Guinness records, recognized the sandwich as the world's longest.

But the PEIFA has run into a snag with Guinness. It has no lobster roll category, only a category for longest sandwich.

PEIFA's lobster roll is a long way from a record in the sandwich category. That record goes to a group in Beirut, which created a Lebanese-spiced chicken sandwich in 2011 that was 735 metres long.

The PEIFA is currently negotiating with Guinness to create a new category for lobster rolls.
