A new festival dedicated to medical marijuana, the Confederation Festival, is planned for this weekend in Stanley Bridge, P.E.I.

The festival will happen Saturday at Creekside Cottages in Stanley Bridge.

"It's all about information, education and enjoying the camaraderie of being with like-minded people," said Craig Gaudet, who is organizing the event with business partner Luc LeBlanc.

Festivals celebrating medicinal pot have been happening for years in other provinces, the business partners said.

"I decided a few months ago that we needed one here on the Island," said Gaudet. "My partner and me discussed it and we decided to have one it's been rushed."

The festival will focus on giving Islanders information about the benefits of using medicinal marijuana as well as how to geta prescription.

People using medicinal pot "are just hidden in their closets. Nobody's talking about it," said LeBlanc.

It'll include cannabis cooking demonstrations as well as how-to sessions on making your own medications and advice on growing marijuana.

"I wouldn't doubt there will be people there using products, consuming products. If you have your medical cards, I wouldn't doubt you'd be able to buy products," said Gaudet.

The event is for people 19 years and over, although there will be no alcohol allowed. There will be human archery, laser tag, inflatable human soccer, and food trucks.
