Federal election 2015: P.E.I. municipalities hope Liberals carry out infrastructure promise

The Federation of Prince Edward Island Municipalities is looking forward to the federal Liberals making good on an election promise of more money for infrastructure.

Prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau said a Liberal government would double spending on infrastructure to jump-start economic growth.

Federation president Bruce MacDougall saidthere are lots of projects in communities across P.E.I. that could use the extra funding.

"Our roads and our bridges and that type of thing, basically the infrastructure that has been done for the last number of years is coming to its age and there is a lot of work that needs to be done," said MacDougall.

The federation hopes to meet with government officials in Ottawa next month, MacDougall said.

Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee is also pleased the Liberals made infrastructure spending a promise.

He saidthe city has a number of projects in need of federal dollars.

"The new water supply, we're looking at a possible new fire station. We are looking to complete the storm sewer separation project. So those are the types of projects we will be looking to the federal government for for funding."

Lee hopes having a Charlottetown MP on the government side of the House of Commons will ensure the needs of the city are heard.
