P.E.I.'s biggest-ever student concert was held Monday at Credit Union Place in Summerside, P.E.I., featuring 800 students from across the province including 500 in a huge choir.

Music Monday is an annual celebration of music education in schools and communities in Canada that began in 2004. It's backed by the Canadian Coalition for Music Education, which says students educated in music do better in other subjects and in life.

The groups in Summersideplayed everything from traditional Acadian tunes to Michael Jackson's 80s hit Thriller. It was one of thousands of Music Monday concerts happening across Canada.

The theme was"Women's Empowerment Through Music," marking 100 years since Canadian women were legally allowed to vote.

It featured the Bluefield High School band, Three Oaks Senior High School's R&B Band, UPEI Brass Quintet, female acapella group Sirens, ukelele player Jordan Cameron, Acadian group 112 Accords and more.

About 300 people came out to hear the mega-concert.
