TimCard leads RCMP to P.E.I. National Park theft suspects

RCMP on P.E.I. have arrested a man and a woman for stealing from vehicles in P.E.I. National Park after a TimCard gave away the location of the accused pair.

A 37-year-old man and 52-year-old woman from Summersideare facing a number of criminal charges for mischief, theft and possession of stolen property obtained by crime in connection with smash and grabs from vehicles at P.E.I. National Park and in North Rustico.

The thefts occurred on Monday. Vehicle windows were smashed to allow thieves to take things inside.

Smartphone alert

A woman vacationing from Alberta had a TimCard stolen.

The TimCard can be preloaded with cash to purchase items from Tim Hortons, and can also be connected to a smart phone. Tuesday evening, the woman received notifications on her phone that the card was being used at a Tim Hortons store in Cavendish.

She alerted police, and RCMP were able to identify two suspects at the store. The information was passed to RCMP in Summerside and the pair was arrested a short time later.

A number of stolen items were recovered, say police, including the Tim Hortons card used earlier in Cavendish that belonged to the victim.

RCMP credited the sharp observations of the Tim Horton's staff in Cavendish with helping in the arrest.
