If you can't make it to Tyne Valley Friday for the oyster shucking competition, not to worry.

Organizers plan to stream the Canadian Oyster Shucking Championship using Facebook live.

Oyster bar owners and professional shuckers come from across the country to compete for a chance to represent Canada at the world championships.

AdamMacLennan, of the organizing committee, says streaming the competition live is a chance to market the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival to oyster lovers throughout Canada.

"There's going to be close-ups, shots of the crowd, we'll even be displaying some of the oysters that are being served to all the locals that are at that event that night," he said.

MacLennan is hoping about 1,000 people tune in from restaurants across the country.

  • An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Alex MacLellan as a member of the organizing committee. In fact, Adam MacLennan is vice chair of the oyster festival.
