Drugs, knives, rifle seized from Summerside residence

A 39-year-old man is facing weapons and drug-related charges after police executed a warrant at a Summerside, P.E.I., residence Tuesday.

Neighbours awoke to loud bangs and saw a large police presence around 5 a.m. No gunshots were fired, said Summerside police Sgt. Jason Blacquiere.

The Prince District Joint Force Operations Unit, made up of RCMP, Summerside and Kensington police along with the Emergency Response Team, made a forced entry into the upper unit apartment of a two-unit apartment building, Blacquiere said.

Street shut down

The residence was well known to police, he said. The streetwas shut down while police executed the warrant.

"The investigators had information that there was weapons in the apartment, firearms in the apartment, so it was just a precaution to keep the public safe," Blacquiere said.

More than 20 knives, including machetes,brass knuckles and a .22 calibre rifle with ammunition along with roughly3.5 g of methamphetamine and 14 hydromorphonecapsuleswere seized according to police.

The man remains in custody. A woman who was also arrested at the scene was later released and is not expected to be charged, according to police.
