A truckload of P.E.I. potatoes was accepted with enthusiasm in Fort McMurray, Alta.,Wednesday.

The donation is a way for the industry on the Island to offer support to those affected by the wildfires, saidKendraMills of the P.E.I. Potato Board.

The truck, carrying more than 22,600 kilograms of spuds, left P.E.I. last week and arrived Wednesday.

The response to the potatoes has been wonderful with lots of positive comments on social media, Mills said.

"They are being distributed through two different places, through the Wood Buffalo food bank and also the Wood Buffalo Salvation Army,"she said.

"So the truck basically was split into half and each location got half of a truck load."
