P.E.I. man charged with impaired driving causing death of woman killed in head-on crash

A 56-year-old man from the Cornwall, P.E.I., area, Stephen Michael Quinn is charged with impaired driving causing death following an investigation into a head-on collision that killed an Island woman, Melissa Palmer, in March 2018.

A 56-year-old man from the Cornwall, P.E.I., area is facing two charges related to a fatal head-on collisionthat led to the death ofan Island woman.

Stephen Michael Quinn has been charged with impaired driving causing death and impaired driving with blood alcohol concentration exceeding80milligrams of alcohol in100millilitres of blood, causing death, according to the RCMP's Sgt. Chris Gunn.

On March 5, Melissa Ann Palmer, 36, was driving aHonda Civic in Eldon that collided head-on with a van.

Her husband told CBC News she was on her way back from the store in Eldon when the crash occurred.

She was airlifted to Halifax, but died the next day from her injuries.

Police sayQuinn was driving the couriervan that collided with Palmer's car, and that he was headed towardCharlottetown.

They say Quinnwas working at the time of the accident, although police wouldn't share the man's blood alcohol level as the case is now before the courts.

Gunnsaid road and weather conditions were not factors in the crash.

Quinn is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Charlottetown on Aug. 6, 2018. He has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
