P.E.I. RCMP asking for public's help locating grow ops

With much of P.E.I. used for agriculture, the RCMP say it is a challenge for officers to locate marijuana grow operations.

As a result, police are asking for the public's help locating marijuana in fields this growing season, but they caution members of the public not to investigate fields themselves. Instead, the public is asked to report anything suspicious to the RCMP or CrimeStoppers, since fields can sometimes be guarded or set up with traps.

Police say examples of suspicious behaviour that the public might see include unusual traffic or parked vehicles on a property, people trespassing in fields or fertilizer or fertilizer bags.

Marijuana plants are bright green and can grow between one and two metres. Plants have seven jagged leaves on each stock and can smell like a skunk.

Police add that plants can sometimes be hidden between other growing crops.
