No decision yet on new home that would block neighbours' view

Charlottetown city council has deferred a decision on whether to allow a new home on a property that would block the water view for some neighbours.

The view through the property at the corner of Richmond and West streets has been open for 100 years, say some residents, and to build there would change the look and feel of the neighbourhood.

The property owners say they've been working with the city for three years to make sure they follow all the rules in building their new home.

Council is hoping that a meeting with the owners and neighbours can be set up. Christine Beck, one of the concerned neighbours, is happy with the deferral.

"I think it's a good thing that they are taking their time to consider all sides of the story," said Beck.

"I do hope that the owner of the property does open up and consider listening to the neighbours and maybe having a dialogue with us so we might come to a win-win situation."

Planning staff will now attempt to set up the meeting, but it is not known if the landowners are interested in a meeting.
